I removed all the added in wiring and everything works great again. The relay was drawing current all the time, but was tapped into the alternator main connection point so it did not pass through the fuse block. It was probably related to the tropic air A/C system. I had this mass of wiring in front of the windshield washer tank. I cleaned it up and now my windshield wipers work great again.īut the culprit turned out to be a relay added in by the dealer to boost the current for the cooling fan. Secondly I referred to some other relay, that I thought was seat belt buzzer. And to do my testing, of course the door was open. If the door is open, then of course you will have current. It was the courtesy light timer, which was simply doing its job. To begin with, I thought it was the door chime, as I noted, but that was not it. I finally discovered what the problems were with this battery drain issue. You wouldn't see it during the day, but at night with the lights off you can faintly see the glow increase with rev's. When the alternator light goes off and the car is at an idle, the alt light is off, but as you rev the motor, the light starts to faintly glow. 
With the engine off I get 12.8V, with the engine running I get 12.5V. Then once you blip the throttle the light turns off like you would expect if the battery was charging. The light is on at first when you turn the key on, and while at idle. I didn't suspect a problem since when you start the car the light goes off like it should. When I bought the car it came with an invoice from Barber Shop Alfa that showed that the alternator was replaced last 8/19. That problem is solved but does anyone know what the relay is for? The relay is a sipea # 0692 12V and after I unplugged it the current drain is gone.

There are 2 relays bolted to the bottom edge of the dash above the fusebox, and the relay that clicks is the one to the left as you face the front ( the one towards the drivers door) There is also a relay that clicks on and off when I connect the fuse. I disconnected the clock and the Ampere draw didn't drop. Fuse #4 which serves: door mirrors, courtesy light, stop light, clock, ignition switch seat light, radio, door reminder buzzer, hazard flasher and fusebox light has a 0.16A drain through it. I charged the battery then got out the VOM. Went out to start it this morning and nothing. I just picked up a really clean 1986 GTV6 over the weekend.
